MINIMALLY INVASIVE THYROID SURGERY
Careful planning and creation of the incision is important. The incision is planned to be within a normal crease or wrinkle line to increase cosmetic appearance. Other landmarks of the neck are marked as well.
The incision is created and dissection is performed using small retractors to gain exposure to the thyroid gland.
Typical thyroid incision is usually less than 1.5 inches in length but may be longer if the size of the thyroid mass is large. The waterproof bandage permits showering the same day of surgey.
This is a NIM monitored endotracheal tube and monitor used by anesthesia to monitor the laryngeal nerves during surgery. When a nerve is stimulated, the monitor will show activity. This may decrease the chance of a nerve injury during surgery.
